Steep downhill from the picnic spot. 4WD can proceed further beyond this point but not advisable for sedan due to deep ruts. Note the gated land clearing by the right |

Not far from Aban Mawang Campsite is a makeshift shelter managed by Temuan Orang Asli. The written signpost said "Welcome to Faruq Waterfall" and went on the explain the RM2 per pax charges for individuals aged 15 and above. The charges are for the purposes of maintaining the cleanliness of the area. Our payment included free bicycle park and security! |

Queueing up to wash up and call it a night |
In order to make it to Cherandong Falls, Team Johor sacrificed their sleep, arranging for a 4 am van pick up. Thomas who was furthest away was the first to board the van before the rest of us who congregated at Horizon Hills.

5 am, 7 bikes with 6 rider's luggages |

7.15 am, 7 bikes with 7 rider's luggages! Spot the difference! |
When the van finally arrived at Horizon Hills, our second pick up point, it took us a while to arrange all 7 bikes in the van. It was almost 5 am when the van doors were finally shut and we were ready to roll.

As arranged, Zoe was picked up from Ayer Keroh's Jejantas R&R. She had gone to Melaka for her filial duties and had cleverly masterminded the 3rd pick up. Her bike was sent over to Claudine's home a few days earlier, to be loaded into the van.

"Cargo" safely collected |
As Team JB bid Francis farewell, Team KL were already making their way to Kuala Kubu Baru by commuter train. Mindy was first to arrive, followed by the trio of Kelvin, Jasmine and KH. Team KL were 1 hour ahead of Team JB.
Nevertheless, we managed to meet up close to 11 am at KKB's food court by Jalan Abdul Hamid, located next to the post office. This was after much delays which involves packing and unpacking; changing and toilet queues plus THREE separate requests for Yogi House's staff to reopen their door!!!!
|
Jalan Ampang Pecah. Note the plastic bag of food tied to the seat post! |
We left for Cherandong Falls shortly after. Riding along Jalan Ampang Pecah, it was fun to observe how everyone have different ideas on carrying their tapau food!
|
Lost! |
|
Overshot! |
Sending the detailed step by step video on how to get to Cherandong Falls to the group was useless. Nobody did their homework!
Thankfully, Kelvin and Jasmine had been there previously. They managed to find the trailhead which led us to the Falls / Dam.
Cherandong Falls is part of the river tributaries of Selangor River. The waters flow to Cherandong Dam which was built to control flood waters in Victorian times. In 1883, the dam broke, inundating the old Kuala Kubu. Resulting from this, the area is now known as Ampang Pecah aka Empangan Pecah and Kuala Kubu Baru was rebuilt in its present day location.

Selangor River viewed from Cherandong Falls, third tier. Crazy, gorgeous river |
The trail leading to Cherandong Falls runs parallel with Selangor River most of the way. Beginning from 2002, the river flow is controlled by Selangor Dam which can be viewed along Route 55 between KKB and Fraser's Hill. Since Selangor Dam is fed by the pristinely clean rivers of Sungai Chilling, Sungai Sangloi, Sungai Gumut and Sungai Kul and has somewhat gone through some siltation process in the Dam, the waters down river were crystal clear during our visit. Having said this, we were told that the river could adopt a "teh tarik" hue during heavy downpour.

KKB sightseeing abandoned midway when it started to rain |
|
Mindy, Chooi and Mr Lim, the three waterproof trios continued to scour the town while the rest of us scurried back |
We returned to base close to 3 pm. By then, it had started raining. The 4 bachelors were parked at The Room @ KKB while the rest called home at The Home @ KKB.

As we took turns to shower, the "waterproofs" continued to scour the small town taking photos of the murals. They returned with kaya kok and biscuits from Teng Wun Bakery and Confectionery for our tea.
In the evening, we continued our sightseeing tour which was abandoned midway due to rain. Later, we went to Kedai Makanan Basikal Stopover for their famous chicken chop before returning to The home for our first night of merriment.
