DRC 21.0 - Teluk Sengat, Johor Lama, Tanjung Buai

Johor River Bridge which spanned the Johor river and is part of Senai-Desaru Expressway

Route 3's Jalan Kota Tinggi has been going through some expansion plans for several years now. Here, we see a bridge being constructed on dry land. The arch will be transported to the river when ready @ https://maps.app.goo.gl/GFM757n4qnppD2UaA?g_st=aw

Approaching the hamlet of Teluk Sengat

There are lots of monkeys in Teluk Sengat

Teluk Sengat

Low tide with electric pylons in the sea

The police station is built on a hillock with a high vantage point

The food court by the jetty

Surprisingly very clean public toilets opposite the food court. Seems like the local council here take their jobs seriously

Restoran Pelancong, a Chinese eatery in Teluk Sengat. There's a big Chinese and Indian community here!

Jeti Teluk Sengat

Poseidon Oyster Bay Resort sprawled between 2 large electric pylons is a chalet built on stilts and run by a Taiwanese couple

Johor River Bridge in the background

Teluk Sengat is located within the flight path of Changi airport. There were lots of aeroplanes sighted

Photo of the concrete jetty, taken from the floating pontoon

Another view of the Johor River Bridge from dryland. Note the LPG ship which continue to beckon us.

High vantage point opposite the police station

The one and only petrol station in Teluk Sengat

But they ran out of fuel!

0 km marker, Johor Lama. After the fall of Melaka to the Portuguese, the ruling Sultan escaped to Johor to rebuild his capital. The Johor Sultanate began near Johor Lama before it was eventually moved to Johor Bahru. Several graves dating back to 16th century holds proof of early settlers here.

The road to Museum Kota Lama is a single passageway road dominated by monkeys!

The museum is opened daily except for Hari Raya and is free!

Well kept museum, opened in 2007

Museum Kota Lama is a replica of a Malay traditional house. Note the column and supporting beams are built without nails

Wood carvings in kerawang designs decked the doorway

Stairs built with pegs instead of nails

Verandah

Lush gardens with gazebos to rest. The toilets are in the background

Riding alongside SDE

Across the SDE, more steep climbs await

Going under the SDE

Ships anchored near Benzmark Marine, a shipyard

New signboard by the fish farms

Old gateway by the fishfarms

Coming down the slope after the gateway, we see more fish farms

On flat ground with more fish farms on both side of the road.

Broken signboard by the river

Chooi called it quits at this point and called Kelvin for help.

Jojo Rakit in the middle of the river

Testing out the shortcut which is popular amongst motorcyclists

The other side of the shortcut even comes with a small gate!!!

The chalets on the right seems abandoned midway through construction.

1 km gravel to get to this point

There's a camera with motion sensors below the bridge. When we approached the bottom of the bridge, we triggered the alarm which went off loudly

There's a motorcycle below the bridge. Perhaps the motorcyclists knows how to avoid triggering the alarm.

The ship with the big bosom!

Batu Layar

The sand here is very fine and soft!

Mr Lim is always game for adventures!

Pork with salted fish

Vege was good. But some dishes were a bit off...

Night time at Batu Layar. Kelvin had to wake up in the middle of the night to secure his tent pegs which came off, blown by the wind

Batu Layar is a public beach. With its new amenities, it attracted a lot of visitors during the weekend. While the crowd thinned after 10 pm, some visitors continue to come at strange hours of the night. While some stayed on to catch the sunrise, some left. Before dawn breaks, a new set of visitors arrived! There were at least 30-40 sunrise catchers when this photo was taken! All of them are young adults, game for a different experience!

It was blowing the whole day and night. We experienced mostly strong winds throughout our stay but it was strongest when this photo was taken as the wind brought in rain clouds.

Taking refuge outside the surau and next to the toilets as the rain came. It was not a heavy shower and the rain left just as quickly as it arrived.

We returned to our picnic once it stopped raining. All who slept in their cars agreed the car was rocking like a boat the whole night!

The rain droved away the crowd and soon, we had the beach all to ourselves!
