Ride and Camp at Lata Kijang (21-22 July 2018), Day 2 : The morning after

Don't play with fire!
Campers packing up
"3 Billy Goats on the Rickety Bridge"
While they dined on durians...
...Kampung Chennah's durians...
...also a collection and distribution center...
...VT and Claudine dined at Daging Salai House, Kampung Dusun Nanding, Hulu Langat!!!

As soon as she gained consciousness again, her face broke into a smile! She had survived the night!!!

Stirring right next to her, VT was like a grizzly that had just been awakened in mid winter. Not terrified by Grouch, she happily enthused her new found interest...she loved camping!

Last night’s “concert” on third class seats was a blast until their busted backs started screaming for rest. Finally calling defeat as they had lost their youth, they retreated back to their tent for some shut eye!

Blowing up the inflatable bed was like blowing up 50 balloons for their child’s party. The balloons had to be up or there will be no party. Likewise, no bed equals no sleep. Along the way, they whizzed and coughed as they struggled with asphyxiation!

It was not easy crawling into the tent as well. Not the physical aspect...they are old BUT not ancient!!! It was the mental challenge that they had to overcome!

The transition from a cool open air environment to a stuffy tent can be claustrophobic. They had to figure how to maximize the space in cramped conditions. By the time they had gotten themselves organized, they had worked out a sweat and the tiny whirring fan can do little to cool them down.

Mind over matter....mind over matter........ Oh dear, what’s the smell???

It wasn’t helpful that they had not taken a proper bath. Other than the earlier dip in the stream, they had not washed with soap and clean water! No deodorant, no moisturizers and now ammonia is oozing out through their pores!

Thanks to Gerard’s advice and Claudine’s quick thinking, the listerine concoction was sprayed onto VT’s feet. Surprisingly the anti bacteria compound worked wonders and the smell was quickly eliminated.

However, sleep was not easy to come! Not when Woodstock festival was in town.

Time check 10.30 pm...Frank Sinatra is in the air!

Time check 11.30 pm...Percy Sledge is back in town!

Time check 12.00 pm...footsteps and car engine!

Time check 1.00 pm...shouts of Happy Birthday, not once but many times!!!!!!! Potty break....

Time check 3.00 am...the fan is dead but it is getting cool.

Time check 4.30 am...brrrrrr! Time to pull out the silk blankets!

Time check 6.30 am...earth to Claudine! Landed without any aches and sores!!Yippee!!!

Brushing their teeth to the gushing sound of the river was an amazing experience! Gargling with bottled mineral water felt RICH!! As they had over estimated their water consumption, carrying more than 6 liters between the two of them, it was only wise to consume them or risk carting them back to the car! Topping their tanks, KC had delivered as promised, 2 bottles of 1.5 liters water last night!

As Team Simon was still in Lala Land, VT and Claudine decided to start breakfast on their own. After all, they had brought their own rations of bread, chili tuna and eggs. Meanwhile, David who happened to stroll by was invited to breakfast as well.

Soon after, the whole campsite started to stir...

CS Lim was the first to break camp. He was seen bending over his folded tent and belongings.

Herbert was spotted making numerous trips across the suspension bridge, carrying full loads of gears to the car. He was topless last night and remained status quo this morning!

Cindy was once again, dishing out food for everyone. When Claudine dropped by to say her goodbyes, she offered a soft boil egg to her as well!

Down by the stream, David and his son were panning for gold with buckets and shovels in hand while Danny’s and Sueanne’s girls were running about with water guns!

Meanwhile, through all the hustle and bustle, KC was making his rounds to make sure everyone and everything was in order! Like a camp warden, he did not leave any stones unturned! Thankfully, no drugs or illegal substances were brought in but only smokes and alcohol!!!

As VT and Claudine had a long journey ahead, they decided to pack and leave as quickly as they can. Bidding everyone farewell, they mounted their bikes in the same order they had arrived...equal distribution of weight irregardless of scale!

So while VT was assigned the 3 liters bag of water, Claudine was made to mule the 2.7 kg tent, not taking into account the weight of the dry bag! It is a fair and equal relationship where scale does not matter. Big man does not equal big load. Light woman does not enjoy light loading! Likewise, the drive home after picking their boy up from KL also saw Claudine taking over the wheels while VT did the reverse...eyes shut but mouth, wide opened!
