As
there were no cycling activities planned for the day, many of us took this
opportunity to indulge in our own preferred activities. While the bigger group
of beach bums amongst us chose to spend a lazy morning by the sea front, some
others took the boat out, in search of Nemo and friends.
In the
afternoon, those who did not embark on the "search" party took a short walk to Lubok Teja, passing by Coconut Grove, Juara
Turtle Project and Little Planet. TNB’s Mentawak mini hydro power station,
located close to Little Planet’s pontoon bridge marks the start of the ascent
on gravel route, all the way to the picnic spot. Beyond is the dam, built to
control the waterflow meant to power up the hydro station.

TNB's Mentawak Hydro Mini station was hissing away loudly when we walked past. Note the strange rock erosion. |

Lubok
Teja comes with a wide pool which is perfect for swimming. The depth of the
pool varies from 2 feet to 5 feet with the deeper ends, nearer to the cascading
waters. The rocky section of the river sees shallower waters with friendly
“tiger” stripped fishes coming close to your feet for scraps of food.
In the
evening, we met again for dinner at Coconut Grove. The place, recommended by
Jazper offers mediocre food at a premium; possibly because of its ambience and
live band. Overall, we had a good experience until Mr Lim decided to sing one
song too many; egged on by the 2 bikini girls we had met earlier, at Lubok
Teja.
We
finished off the night drinking whisky under the roof of Barat Tioman’s
restaurant as it was a wet night. The staff provided a bucket of ice for RM5
and the glasses required without a blink of an eye. Such a nice and easy-going
environment as compared to stuffy 5 stars hotels.

Kampung Juara, rideabout - VT and Claudine took their bikes out in the morning and rode from one end of Kampung Juara to the other end, turning into all visible junctions and returning to the same starting point to see their Strava clocking not more than 5 km !
