DRC 6.0 - Planned for Pulau Penarek but last minute changed to Jeram Tinggi (Oct 2-3, 2021)

At Gombang, by the Muar River

This is a favourite spot with anglers hoping to catch udang galah

First pitstop, waiting for Sue and Rina who had decided to stop to adjust the seatpost

Arriving in Renchong, Ivy decided to take us to Gombang for traditional coffee

At Gombang Jetty. There used to be RORO ferry service across the river but this has been discontinued

Lunch by Gerisek's riverbank is mainly Malay fare. Chinese food can be found by the old shop lots. 20 m away is Jeti Cikgu Shidee where you can rent a motorboat for RM60 for the whole day. However, you need to buy your own petrol which costs about RM20-30 for full day sailing. No motorboat license is required. Most anglers come here to fish udang galah.

Recce for campsite, Kampung Semandar

J137 with Kampung Semandar on our right

J137 heading towards Panchor

We took our showers from this temple in Panchor. The temple keeper even brewed coffee and took out a tin of biscuit for us

This temple is located on the main road of J137 and a few hundred meters away from Jeti Utama Panchor

Landscaping

Entering the temple to give donations in gratitude for the warm welcome and hot showers

Serene

Tiger, cat or tiger cub?

We drove half hour to Pulau Penarek but the girls were too afraid to camp there citing snakes and leeches

Claudine and VT drove to old familiar places by a paddy field, looking for the perfect campsite

Unfortunately, our timing was all wrong. The paddy had just been harvested

Testing the ground, it was hard and firm but not a pretty sight

Alternative campsite by the still stream

Beautiful but rejected!

At the eleventh hour, we decided to drive to Jeram Tinggi, arriving in Jementah at 6.50 pm. By the time we had packed our food and drove into the campsite, it was already pitch dark. In the darkness and without GPS, VT and Claudine mistakenly led Sue and Rina into a rubber estate!!! Claudine had to get down from her car to direct the ladies out

Light drizzle turned into heavy drizzle which drove everyone into the pergola by the stream

When you have beer, all discomfort is forgotten

Claudine stuffing herself with nasi goreng kampung...

...while the rest were onto tidbits...

Taking a night walk when the rain stopped

We discovered there were giants around us

Great dong

Don't piss him off

Saturday Night Fever

After the rain, we had a beautiful night of stars

New signboard and few new amenities but the garbage remains overflowing.
