Benut and Benutten Hotel ( 1 July 2023 )

Benutten Hotel in Benut

900 m off road near Masjid Kg Parit Selangor @ https://maps.app.goo.gl/8VpeKqVtg4ycimnq7

It's a well known short cut for the locals

It was raining in the morning which explains the big puddle of water

Everyone have their own way to cross the puddle...

...or just to brave it !

Crossing Sungai Pontian Besar at Jambatan Jalan Kampung Parit Jawa @ https://maps.app.goo.gl/LJtmECJBh9KaQCE79. Down the river, 2 fishermen were bailing water out of their boat which had collected too much rain over the night and sank

Gorgeous road which runs parallel to Route 5, a blend of banana trees and palm oil estates

Note the google link with street view is from January 2014, by which some of the palm trees have been cleared for pineapples which reaps short term harvests

This should be the back of Seng Leong Nursery @ https://maps.app.goo.gl/VXzutq4b75V89wMA7

We were thrilled to see so many bonsais

Someone said we were in Japan!

With such beautiful trees, we wondered if theft is rampant...

...no guard dogs, security or fencing...

...not easy to steal these trees !!!

Chi behind the reception desk with his new Lego girlfriend who is also a cyclist!!!

Lunch in an old part of Benut. If you don't mind the flies, the place serves decent food. Song Heng Seafood Restaurant @ https://maps.app.goo.gl/GtZmt4yLjGsoa4Hi8

Komplete Horse Shit and Komplete Horse Shit 2, first Pak Thor (Oct 7-8, 2023) - Day 2 - Simpang Renggam to Home

Kelapa Sawit mural. Note the bowl of thunder tea rice which the village is famous for! There's also abacus, yong tau foo and chai pan to die for.

A good friend recommended a noodle shop with handmade meatballs near the market (https://g.co/kgs/9jQRxj) but they only opened at 7.30 am, so we had to content ourselves to Restoran Soon Lie which is only 200m away from L Hotel.

We started off on J 26, unsure if this was haze or fog

By the time we got to the Simpang Renggam prison, we were sure it was fog/mist as there was water condensation on our glasses and panniers. Also, the wind was blowing and we could see the mist moving. Can you spot the sun???

Beautiful weaving by a hardworking spider

From the road, we could see them like CD's hung up along the fences. The new generation will not know what a CD is!!!

Renggam murals

Renggam murals

The new Renggam railway station. It is so sad no thoughts were given to preserve the old station but I was happy to spot the old post office which was still in operation and in good hands

Highway to Heaven!!!

This place or rather route is so popular with motorbikers and car enthusiasts, the Big Boys clubs regularly runs a drive with a stopover at this shop

Motivating factor when we are faced with the challenging hills. Wantan mee loaded with lard and Yong Tau Foo

Second sets of hills after Layang Layang. We were surprised the land has been cleared

When bored...

Shocking!!!

This was the view before the land clearing @ https://maps.app.goo.gl/WeKp7UqNurtjCQDcA

Look! There's a factory

We rode on this beautiful route so many times but never knew there were houses tucked between the thick foliage of palm trees

The new double tracking electrified rail system. We used to ride on the railway tracks which is guarded by a railway guard posted by the railway gates. His job is to close the gates when a train approaches. Nowadays, we have to ride on an elevated viaduct which runs above the tracks!

My favourite Hakka restaurant is located beyond this gateway

This one got a fright from me
